Dr. Arit Parkash is graduated from Chandka Medical College, Liaquat University of Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Sindh. After a house job at Civil Hospital Karachi, he joined the National Institute of Child Health Karachi for a 4-year residency program, after completion of which he cleared his FCPS in 2011. He then went to The University of Child Health Sciences, Lahore, Punjab, for further training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition sub-specialty and returned in 2015 after completing his 2nd FCPS training. He has an interest in research and preventive pediatrics and he has also completed the degree program with the thesis of Master of Science of Public Health (MSPH) from APPNA Institute of Public Health, JSMU Karachi. He rejoined the National Institute of Child Health/ Jinnah Sindh Medical University Karachi as an Assistant Professor. Currently, he is a Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition Department, National Institute of Child Health/ Jinnah Sindh Medical University Karachi

The Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition, National Institute of Child Health/ Jinnah Sindh Medical University Karachi started in 2019. Dr. Arit Parkash is the Head of the Department who accepted as a challenge and took up the initiative of building up a new department at NICH. Since then he has been working tirelessly as Head of Department along with other faculty and staff members. He is the Supervisor for Pediatric Training in FCPS and MCPS programs of Post Graduate Training at NICH recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan for Post Graduate Training of doctors leading to the award of FCPS and MCPS. Soon second fellowship will be recognized for training at NICH, he is an approved Supervisor for the second fellowship program in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology and only the ward accreditation is in process.

Dr. Arit has actively participated in several National and International Conferences in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He also went to Thailand to receive training in advanced Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopies. He has established an endoscopy unit at NICH in his Department where various Upper Gastrointestinal and Lower Gastrointestinal procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies being done. Procedures like duodenal biopsies, colonic biopsies, endoscopic esophageal variceal banding, esophageal stricture dilatations, and polypectomies are being done. Liver biopsies and liver abscess drainage are also done in the endoscopy unit of NICH.

Professor Arit has dedicated 18 years to teaching and continues to do so. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and doctors at the NICH Karachi, Pakistan. He has to his credit many publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the Ethical Review Committees of NICH Karachi.
