The Honorable Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Syed Murad Ali Shah; Minister for Health, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho; and Secretary Health Sindh, Tahir Hussain Sangi visited The Kidney Centre Postgraduate Training Institute (TKC) on 27th February, 2026 to formally inaugurate the institution’s newly established Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Upon their arrival, the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Secretary Health were warmly received by Dr. Rashid Jooma, Chief Executive Officer of The Kidney Centre, Mr. Adnan Afridi, Chairman, Board of Governors of The Kidney Centre, Mrs. Marriana Karim, Chairman, FOKC (Friends of The Kidney Centre) and distinguished members of the Board of Governors and faculty.

Following the reception, the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Secretary Health proceeded to the new ICU, where they were escorted by Dr. Wahaj (Head of the ICU Department) amongst others for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

As guests transitioned to the second-floor seminar room, the Chief Minister, Health Minister and Secretary Health conducted a brief tour of the sixth-floor Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir BhuttoDialysis floor. This provided an opportunity for them to observe firsthand the hospital’s advanced facilities and its unwavering commitment to delivering quality healthcare with dignity and compassion. During the tour, Chief Minister interacted with the medical staff, praising their dedication and the hospital’s mission to provide accessible treatment to all patients, regardless of their financial background.

The formal session in the seminar room commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Adnan Afridi, Chairman of the Board of Governors of The Kidney Centre. Following a detailed presentation on the status of Phase II of the ICU, the Chief Minister had a Q&A session with The Kidney Centre’s project team. This initiative, along with other critical infrastructure projects, is being supported by a Grant-in-Aid of 500 million rupees generously provided by the Government of Sindh, specifically allocated for:

  • The establishment of the New ICU.
  • The comprehensive upgradation of the IT network.
  • The renovation of patient accommodation areas.
  • The replacement of outdated medical equipment.

The Chief Minister was informed that the first phase of the ICU is now complete and will be fully operational by October 2026. Additionally, the IT network upgrade is slated for completion by July 2026, with all renovation activities expected to conclude by the end of the year.

To commemorate the visit, a memento was presented to the Chief Minister. In his remarks, The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the institution’s service to the community. Dr. Rashid Jooma concluded the event by thanking the Chief Minister for his enduring support and his presence at the inauguration.
